Raytown Fire was dispatched to a residential structure fire at approximately 5pm on Thursday.  The caller was a neighbor who noticed smoke coming from the residence.  Dispatch informed units enroute to the call that an occupant was trapped in the home.  Dispatch also said that neighbors were attempting to enter and rescue the occupant.  Raytown Car 51 arrived on scene and found smoke and fire showing from the southwest corner of the structure.  Raytown Pumpers 51 and 52 arrived just after Car 51.  Pumper 51 was ordered to pull a hand line for fire attack while Pumper 52 was ordered to conduct search and rescue operations.  Crews forced entry through the front door and encountered heavy smoke with fire coming from the southwest bedroom.  A female victim and was quickly located and removed from the structure.  Raytown EMS had arrived on the scene at the same time as fire units.  They assumed patient care and transported the victim to Research Hospital.  The patient remains in critical condition.  Crews were able to quickly knock down the fire and complete a search of the structure.  Two dogs and two cats were found during the search and brought outside.  Unfortunately, none of the pets survived.  Kansas City Fire Department responded to assist with extinguishing the fire.  Assistance was requested from Raytown Police and the Missouri State Fire Marshal's office for the investigation.  After the on scene investigation was completed the fire was preliminarily determined to be accidental with the fire starting in the southwest bedroom.  The cause of the fire is currently undetermined.
