Additional information:
Raytown Fire was dispatched to a residential structure fire early Saturday morning. The caller was a passerby who used a cell phone to report the fire. Raytown Police arrived on scene and found the structure heavily involved with fire venting through the roof at the west end of the home. Raytown Engine 1 arrived on scene, deployed an attack line, made entry through the front door and began to search for occupants. During the search they located a female victim in a bedroom and removed her from the structure. The rescue was complicated by the heavy fire involvement. Raytown Engine 2 arrived on scene and assisted with moving the victim to an ambulance. Raytown EMS transported the victim to a local hospital; the patient was subsequently transferred to a burn center with life threatening injuries. Two other occupants were not believed to be home at the time of the fire. The fire was contained to the structure with heavy damage to the building and contents. Kansas City Fire Department responded to assist with extinguishing the fire. The cause of the fire has not been determined and the investigation is ongoing.
