Raytown Fire Handles Seven Fireworks Related Calls

Raytown Fire Protection District
Press Release
Raytown Fire Handles Seven Fireworks Related Calls

PIO Assigned: Matt Mace Fire Marshal
Follow up Info: 816-875-9PIO (9746)
Date: 7/5/12
Additional information:
The Raytown Fire Protection District answered seven fireworks related calls for service.  Five of these calls were grass fires as a result of fireworks, one was a small deck fire, and one call was for leaves on fire in a gutter as a result of the illegal use of bottle rockets.  In total the estimated dollar loss for the 2012 Forth of July holiday is under $500.00.  The calls for service increased by 2 calls from 2011, however the dollar loss dropped $13,500.00 from 2011.  This is mainly due to a house fire Raytown Fire extinguished in 2011 which was also determined to have been the result of illegal bottle rockets.
An item of particular interest was the fact that the Raytown Fire Protection District issued emergency warnings and generated special signage due to the extreme dry conditions faced.  With these warnings came the specific instructions to have a garden hose or a water source at the ready should a fire start.  In four of the grass fires and the one deck fire a citizen either completely extinguished or at the least controlled the fire with the use of a garden hose prior to our arrival.  These actions saved thousands of dollars in property, and in at least two of the incidents prevented the potential for the loss of life.

EMERGENCY WATER RESTRICTIONS FOR JACKSON COUNTY WATER DISTRICT #2 LIFTED

Press Release

EMERGENCY WATER RESTRICTIONS FOR JACKSON COUNTY WATER DISTRICT #2 LIFTED

PIO Assigned: Matt Mace Fire Marshal
Follow up Info: 816-737-6034
Additional info: Contact Pat Ertz with Jackson County Water #2 at 816-353-5551
Date: Location: 7/3/12
The Raytown Fire Protection District and the Jackson County Water District #2 have lifted the EMERGENCY WATER RESTRICTIONS for Raytown customers of the Jackson County Water District #2. The restrictions were put in place at the recommendations of the Water District in response to the decreased supply pressure which Kansas City in currently able to provide.
“The Fire District is grateful for overwhelming response we saw from our residents.  In less than 20 minutes from the time we issued the restrictions the water system gained 10 psi.”  The only variable that changed was the issuance of the restrictions. “ Without a stable water supply we cannot safely provide fire protection for our residents, and it is no surprise that when needed our residents answered our call.”
Raytown remains under a boil advisory due to the low pressure we encountered.  Prior to drinking citizens are advised to boil water for a minimum of three minutes.  Boiling is not necessary for bathing, laundry, and other non-potable uses.  The advisory is to remain in effect for the next 24 to 48 hours.

The Raytown Fire Protection District and the Jackson County Water District #2  has implemented EMERGENCY WATER RESTRICTIONS for Raytown customers of the Jackson County Water District #2.
